What is the difference between the Economy Disc and other disc preprinting services?

We have streamlined our disc printing and duplication systems by means of investing heavily in automated equipment to gain substantial economies of scale and simplification of order processing.
This has allowed us to reduce our prices and decrease the turn-around times, thereby offering an 'Economy Service' to you.

What is SuperGloss?

Most low cost disc printing produces a matte finish. While this is quite OK, it is not like commercially manufactured discs that have a gloss, water proof print face.
SuperGloss discs have vivid colour print and a gloss water proof finish. Arguably, our SuperGloss discs look equal to, or better than, commercially manufactured discs.

What if I want a Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden disc pre-printed?

This is not available under the Economy Disc range, our Photo and Professional printing services can do this for you. Please refer to the preprinted discs categories for all products.

How long will the preprinting/duplication take?

This is very much dependent on the quanity you require and other work we have queued prior to your order. For the Economy we estimate 5 business days for Photo and Professional grades we aim to take 2 business days from the time you have approved the artwork. We also have an 'urgent job' fee ($25) if you require urgent printing and where we have the equipment available. Please note shipping methods and times are not included in the two-days turn around time.

What if I want more preprinted discs at a later date?

Once we have preprinted for you we keep your art on file for a period of 2 years (unless you specifically request us not to). Therefore, all you have to do is make a phone call (if it is the same artwork) and then we'll start your job right away!
For duplication, we do not normally hold master discs, however we can if requested.

Do you also copy/ duplicate as well as print disc faces?

Yes, we are set-up to burn hundreds of discs a day.

What about printing booklets, slicks & inserts?

Yes, we do this. Please contact us with what you require and we will quote you a.s.a.p.
DVD and CD paper inserts are also available in raw/blank forms if you want to make them yourself.

Can you prepare artwork for us?

No, this is not something that we are setup to do.
We primarily supply creative businesses who do the artwork and we do the manufacturing / assembly. We gain significant economies of scale by specialising in the printing and duplicating aspects.
We are happy to provide a list of Art-people who may be able to help you. Please note, if we provide a list it is your responsibility to establish if they are suitable for your task. PCX takes no responsibility for incorrectly designed artwork and it is your responsibility to ensure it is suitable

What is required of a duplication master disc?

If you decide to get your discs duplicated and printed with us then you will need you to supply a Master DVD or CD to us. When supplying a master, always supply a well-known branded disc, such as Taiyo Yuden, That’s CD-R, Verbatim, Sony etc. We will gladly supply you a quality disc at no charge for you to use as your master if need be.
Burn your master at a maximum of 16x in the case of CD-Rs and 8X for DVDs. Your drive may well be capable of faster burn speeds, but our experience indicates that slower burns are less likely to have issues.
Ensure you mark this disc with your name, title of project and date of reproduction. It is always a good idea to make two masters, send one to us and keep one yourself.
If you do not verify your master, or you provide a faulty disc to us, it is your responsibility to cover charges for jobs requiring a re-do.

What is the print area of a disc?

This is detailed in the Economy Disc Art Requirements. In summary it is 22mm inside diameter and 118 outside diameter. Note you need to provide artwork that is square to the size of 120mm.
If you would like printing on a discs that is not 120mm or has a larger inner hub area (eg traditionally about 41mm) then we can do this in our Photo Disc service, where we will print on any of the discs we sell. Pricing is NOT the same as Economy disc printing.

When do I need to complete your order form?

The most important issue is that we respect intellectual property rights. This means that we will not knowingly copy materials that are 'illegal'. For us, it is not possible to know if a logo, video, audio etc are OK to reproduce, so we need your assurance that they are. In the case of Economy Printing, you can order these on-line and will be required to sign off on intellectual property issues (etc). All other print / duplication work requires a completed order form that includes the agreement. We insist on you taking responsibility for these issues. Details of this issue can be found on our order forms.

Will you print onto my discs?

There are a number of reasons why we do not offer to do this.

  • When we supply discs we know how they react to our printing systems and so you can be confident of the outcomes.
  • Our printing price is somewhat reduced by the notion that we are making some margin out of the discs and so do not have to charge as much as we might otherwise
  • When you puchase pre-printed discs it's simple, all we need is the artwork and the elapsed time and shipping costs are minimised.
  • When printing or duplicating there is always some wastage - if we supply the discs we absorb this, so you order 100 preprinted discs you get them, same as if you order 100 disc duplicated. (This does may not apply to all PCX printing services)

How do I send in my pre-print artwork to PCX?

We prefer you to email us your artwork in a Jpeg format. Please email the artwork as an attachment to info@pcx.com.au with the subject 'pre-print artwork' and include your surname or company name and order number. Please put any special information regarding the artwork in the body of the e-mail.
Alternatively you can send us a quality CD-R with the artwork file on it to us. Please note this will take extra time for us to start on your job due to delivery time.
If you are paying us to design your artwork then this will take extra time for the job to commence.

What colour is the print area?

There are two basic colours for inkjet printable discs. The tranditional white and the newer silver inkjet printable materials.

  • Matte White Inkjet Printable - The materials used by various vendors varies both in texture, colour and ink absorbtion characteristics. In the extreme some cheaper discs have a more off white colour and do not bring up strong colours compared to others.
  • Matte Silver Inkjet Printable - This material looks like a some what opalised character. Different vendors appear to have slightly different qualities. For example some tend to towards a white silver, while others tend to a gold silver. Some people describe this appearance as holographic.
Most importantly as the background colour is not pure white: The effects for many create a 'special' apperance that is desirable but individual tastes vary.
Note only white inkjet printing is offered in Economy Print

Does my Pre-Printing disc price include Full face colour prints?

Yes, all our pre-printed products include full colour printing but please be careful when choosing what colours to use in your design. Some colours like gold and silver and skin tones are difficult to portray well on a disc face print.

How do I know that the printed colours are correct?

We have three approaches to this, depending upon how sensitive you are to outcomes. You should note that our disc printing is not capable of exactly matching all colours. In particular we are printing 4 or 6 colours which do not include special colours like silver, gold etc.

  • If it is simple art (for example no skin tones and no special colours to match) then you can 'pre-approve' the art for printing. This would also usually apply to any reprints. Note that an extra charge applies for Economy printing if you wish to approve a print sample. Additionally we may not offer sample or colour adjustment for our Economy service where it is likely to delay other customer's Economy printing. In effect we have more flexibility with regards to colours, schedules etc with the Photo and Professional printing services.
  • If the art has some colour matching, then if you were to provide a colour print sample with your art, then we can be confident that we are getting a fairly good colour match. In this case you are pre-approving on condition that the print sample is close to a match.
